The Foundation Project

Building Essential Skills in K-6th Grades

The Foundation Project is a monthly resource designed to help families and schools work together to build the durable skills students need for success in school, work, and life.

We are promoting these skills in elementary school because the early years are when lifelong habits begin to take shape. Skills like communication, problem-solving, teamwork, responsibility, and adaptability, grow over time, and students learn them best through simple, repeated practice at school and home.

By starting early, we can help students build a strong foundation before the academic, social, and workplace demands of later years arrive. These skills support success int he classroom today and prepare young people for the changing opportunities they will face in the future.

The Arkadelphia Regional Economic Development Alliance and Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Dawson Education Service Cooperative, is pleased to come alongside parents and schools to provide this resource. Our hope is that these short monthly activities will create simple. meaningful connections at home and help strengthen the skills that matter most for a student’s future.

October's Essential Skill: TIME MANAGEMENT & ORGANIZATION

Time management and organization help children learn how to plan, prioritize, and take care of their responsibilities. When children learn to manage their time and belongings, they can become more independent and prepared.

You may see your child growing as a communicator when they:

  • Follow routines with fewer reminders.
  • Keep important belongings in their place.
  • Remember what they need.
  • Complete tasks before moving on.
  • Decide which task needs to be done first.
  • Prepare ahead for upcoming activities.
  • Use a checklist, calendar, or reminder when needed.
  • Finish tasks with less rushing at the last minute.

At school, routines, materials, and deadlines build time management. Practicing these habits at home helps children become independent, responsible learners.
